Did you know that Denver International Airport, also known as DIA has now become the worlds third-busiest airport in the U.S, and if you have been recently you can see why its earned this title. The lines at DIA have always been somewhat long, dependent on your flight time, however it has gotten worse. According to TSA’s reports, in September DIA had the most passengers through the security checkpoints across any airport in the U.S! That is just insane. The CEO of DIA Phil Washington, has recognized the issue and there are plans to expand the security lanes to add four additional lanes, each lane can traffic through around 600 people per hour, increase the parking area, and hire more TSA staff members. Although, none of this will take place until after the 2021 holiday season. Beginning in January, construction starts to open up space to the public for the additional security lanes: ‘Doing Nothing Is Not An Option’
In the meantime, officials ask for patience from the Denver area while they work through the issues and wait times. Until work begins, they will be working on the ‘small matters’; making sure elevators and escalators are working, sidewalk are cleared, making sure concessions are open, and hiring additional CDL drivers to keep the shuttles moving quickly: DIA experiencing ‘growing pains’ as it becomes third-busiest in world
With the holiday season and travel increasing for many local and non local families, this can be an even bigger issue. TSA still recommends arriving two hours before your flight time, however given the current conditions it may be wise to plan ahead and arrive at least three hours before. Here are some Tips to prepare for the airport to help limit your time spent with security:
