Spring Cleaning to Sell

Ahh spring…we’re so glad you are finally here! Warmer months will be here before you know it, making now the perfect time to tackle those dirty details around your home. Don’t let the word cleaning scare you off just yet. The thought of deep cleaning your entire home can seem like a daunting task. However, if you’re planning on listing this spring, now is the time to create a plan and tackle every nook and cranny of your home. Here are some tips to help you jumpstart your spring cleaning:

1. Dust, Dust, Dust!  – Dust is a problem for multiple reasons: They coat the surfaces of your furniture and walls and as gross as it sounds, it’s often the underlying cause of allergies. To really rid your home of dust you need to do more than  just wipe down countertops, bookshelves and electronics. Decluttering, wipe baseboards, wash linens and curtains frequently, vacuum your floors, carpets, and even your mattress on a regular basis.

2. Clean your Vacuum  – Yes, the vacuum cleaner you use to clean your home also needs a regular cleaning. To ensure your vacuum runs more efficiently, so it lasts longer and picks up more debris, you must clean the filter, hose, attachments and canister. Does someone in your home have long hair? Turn that vacuum upside down and you will notice all the long hairs wrapped around the brush. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

3. Clean Painted Walls  – Walls need cleaning too, especially if you have children and pets. Stained walls can be difficult to clean, but removing those smudges are an easy task. Start with a clean cloth and warm water. If that doesn’t work, add some mild dish soap. If all else fails, now is the perfect time to touch up with leftover paint!

4. Give your cabinets some TLC  – Think about how often you touch your kitchen cabinets.  Over time you’ve likely noticed that impossible-to-remove residue. Properly maintaining your kitchen cabinets will ensure a longer lifespan. Take all items out and get rid of the things you haven’t used nor want. Vinegar is the go-to natural cleaner when faced with greasy cabinets. Mix a 50/50 solution of vinegar and warm water. Place solution in a spray bottle and mist away!

5. Wash Your Windows  – You won’t realize how much dirt has built up on your windows until you start cleaning them! You’ll be amazed by how much brighter your home will feel once completed! Start with a bucket of water and few drops of dish soap. Wipe down the windows with a sponge and then run a squeegee from top to bottom.

6. Change Your Air filter  – Many homeowners forget to stay on top of this crucial maintenance. Has dust been more noticeable throughout your home? Take a look at the filters to see if they’re in need of a change. When it’s time for walkthroughs, the last thing buyers want to see if clogged air vents.
